Objective:
The Junior Coach is to work in tandem with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and the Swim Team Board. They are expected to act as a role model and mentor to all swimmers while providing for a safe environment around the pool. With their positive attitude also consistently provide helpful advice and encouragement for the 6&under and 7-8 age groups. They are expected to be 30 minutes early to all practices and swim meets. Coordinate, educate and motivate all swimmers and demonstrate team spirit.
Meetings / Communication:
The Junior Coach will attend brief weekly meetings with the Head Coach to address swim team issues. Weekly meetings will be held on Monday mornings and after swim meets as announced.
Workouts:
Pre-Season & Regular Season – Attend and instruct workouts for the 6&under and 7-8 age groups as needed and insure the safety and well being of all swimmers in and around the pool. Be prepared to enter the water and provide helpful swim instruction when needed.
Assist in the implementation of the standardized stroke technique for all four strokes. Teach starts and turns with regularity by explaining and demonstrating in the water.
Swim Meets:
Have a minimum of at least one coach for every two lanes and help with start of individual and relay races. Assist and ensure that all swimmers under 9 are at the starting blocks with adequate time to prepare for their race. All 10 & under swimmers shall have at least on coach in their lane providing encouragement and feedback before and after their event. Coaches to also provide timely feedback to 11 & ups after their event. If a swimmer is disqualified the coach is to help explain why the disqualification was written up. Encourage and participate in team cheers before and during the meet.
Social Events:
Participate in age group parties, team trips and scheduled social functions.
